It is now more than three decades since K7 Security commenced operations. The story begins in 1991, when the founder, J Kesavardhanan, wrote his first antivirus program. Over the years, K7 has achieved various milestones in its journey. The first DOS based antivirus software was launched in 1992. A dedicated generic threat engine was developed in 1996-1998.

The company's first Total Security Solution was launched in 2002. In 2003, K7 entered the Japanese market, where it soon emerged as the fastest selling antivirus. Interestingly, the name K7 appears to be a derivative of his name Kesavardhanan.
